The Australian aquarium hobby is one of the most passionate, knowledgeable, and generous communities you'll find anywhere. From the rainbowfish specialists in the tropics to the planted tank enthusiasts in Melbourne's cold winters, hobbyists across this country share an extraordinary depth of care for their animals and their craft.

For too long, buying and selling fish in Australia meant navigating a patchwork of Facebook groups, forum classifieds threads, and word-of-mouth networks. We built oz.fish to give the community a dedicated home — purpose-built for aquarium classifieds, with the verification, trust tools, and species intelligence that the hobby deserves.

What makes oz.fish different?

Every species in our database has been carefully catalogued across 25 categories and 83 subcategories. Sellers list against real species names — no more "blue fish" or "my plecos" — which means buyers can actually search for exactly what they want. We've seeded the Fishdex with over 694 species and 700 colour variants, and the community can contribute more.

Sellers go through a verification flow before they can list, including phone verification and a short questionnaire about their husbandry experience. This keeps standards high and protects buyers.

We're just getting started. The fish room, the feed, the seller profiles — all of it is coming. But the foundation is solid, and we can't wait to see the community start using it.

Thanks for being here at the beginning.
